Which glasses are suitable for mountain biking?
On the trail, you want to see the path and your surroundings clearly without constantly having to adjust your glasses. A suitable mountain bike sports glasses should therefore be selected together with your helmet and in your usual riding position. For glasses wearers, individually tailored vision correction is included from the outset.
Which mountain bike glasses are suitable for glasses wearers?
Two possible solutions are sports glasses with direct prescription lenses and a system frame with an optical insert behind the sports lens. Which solution is suitable depends on your prescription, the frame shape, and the intended use. With a suitable interchangeable lens system, the optical insert can be used with various sports lenses designed for this purpose.
A single frame, interchangeable lens, and prescription insert do not automatically constitute a complete offer. Before ordering, clarify the scope of delivery, compatibility, and individual glazing. Our guide to sports glasses with prescription lenses provides an overview.
How do I test the fit with my helmet?
- Put on the glasses and your own helmet together. Adjust the helmet as you would for a ride.
- Assume your usual riding position and check whether the helmet pushes the glasses down.
- Move your head and check the fit on the nose, the temples, and for pressure points at the temples.
- Check your vision forward and to the sides. With an optical insert, the centering must match the actual wearing position.
A size indication or a head strap is no substitute for a fitting. The combination with a different helmet can also change the fit.
Which lens is suitable for sun and forest?
Base your selection on the expected light conditions, not solely on the color of the mirror coating. A tint that is comfortable for open, sunny routes may be too dark in shaded forest sections. The light transmission and the intended use of the specific lens are crucial.
A lighter or clear lens suitable for this purpose may be sensible in low light. Photochromic lenses are also an option, provided their tinting range and reaction suit the planned use. They do not change tint instantly. Whether a specific SIOLS version has these properties must be checked using its product specifications. UV protection cannot be determined from the darkness of a lens.

For these offers, an optical insert and individually made prescription lenses must be clarified separately. Standard and Pro components are not generally interchangeable. The examples are starting points for advice, not a universal recommendation for every mountain biking discipline.
What helps against fogging?
Have the fit and air circulation checked and clean the lenses according to the manufacturer's instructions. An optical insert brings additional lens surfaces that must also be cared for. Use anti-fogging agents only if they are approved for the lens and coating in question. Fogging-free performance cannot be guaranteed for every weather and stress situation.
Are all sports glasses protective glasses?
No. The designation "sports glasses" or a large lens does not imply a tested protective effect against falls or certain impact loads. For special requirements, such as in downhill use, the complete equipment including helmet, glasses, and vision correction must be specifically tailored to the use.
