Cleaning Hearing Aids Properly: Care and Accessories

Regular, gentle care removes dirt from your hearing aid. It is important to distinguish between the electronic hearing aid, the receiver, and a potentially removable ear piece. Different care instructions apply to these parts. The instructions for your exact device model always take precedence.

How do I clean my hearing aid in everyday life?

  1. Wash and dry your hands. Work over a clean, soft surface.
  2. Wipe the surface with a soft, dry cloth. Carefully remove visible deposits according to the device instructions.
  3. Use suitable cleaning wipes or an approved cleaning agent only according to the manufacturer's instructions. Never spray cleaning spray directly onto the hearing aid or into the microphone and receiver openings.
  4. Check the sound outlet and cerumen filter. Replace the filter only with the designated tool and according to the instructions.
  5. When storing and drying, follow the instructions for your battery or rechargeable model.

Which cleaning accessories are useful?

Can my hearing aid go into water or an ultrasonic bath?

Electronic hearing aids and receivers must not be immersed in water or cleaning fluid for cleaning. A removable ear piece without electronics may have different care instructions. Ask to be shown which parts you can remove and which cleaning method is approved for them. Before reconnecting, the cleaned parts must be completely dry.

Cleaning and drying are not the same

A dryer does not replace the removal of cerumen and dirt. Conversely, surface cleaning does not automatically remove moisture from the device. Choose accessories suitable for your exact device model, especially for rechargeable hearing aids. Do not use improvised heat sources.

Which cerumen filter is suitable?

The brand alone is not enough to make a selection. Check the exact designation of the filter system and the receiver. Our hearing aid filter selection guide explains the differences and leads to the filters on offer.

When should I have my hearing aid checked?

If the volume decreases, the sound remains altered, or you cannot gently remove deposits, have the hearing aid checked at a specialist shop. Do not poke needles into the openings and do not disassemble the device yourself.
